My entry for

contest about her story "Mist and Steel", featuring her and

Oc's, Dreven and Aelra: Games of Court and Crown Contest

After realizing that there was no way in hell I would be able to compete with the most amazing depictions of the most sexiest characters ever I decided to grab the only cute lovely girl left and the guy who is secretly in love with her and take my chances on saving my dignity!!!

About the characters (taken from the contest page):

"Dreven, a member of the Keeshir Guard of the kingdom Dendroa, tends to be loud and brash, teasing and even making sometimes inappropriate jokes, a behaviour that hides in fact a man that dreams of one day marrying, settling down, having children. He has a crush on Aelra he hasn't yet dared to voice, afraid of his friends mocking him. Aelra, a former slave, is Shari's loyal maidservant. She is a friendly person who tries to get along with everyone. She is always wearing a smile and is shy, discreet and romantic."

At first I wanted to show what kind of attitude they would have towards each other, the usual loud and confident Dreven trying to be playful to hide his embarrassment as someone with an more experienced eye could tell by his way-too-big-and-forced of a smile and hand on his head (*cof*a way to show his muscles in the process*cof*) and the shy Aelra that is still not very confident around men (as you can tell by her nervous playing with the hair and arms close to the body) but would certainly and cordially open up towards Dreven charismatic nature, especially him being a friend of her mistress' lover, and inviting him in Shari's house.

But afterwards, a little story started to form in my head and I took a gamble, and decided that Dreven should be having a necklace hidden behind him, ready to offer up to Aelra and is just trying to gather up some courage.

Of course, his gamble is undoubtedly destined to failure. Never having been offered a gift by any man, Aelra will most certainly think this is a present to Shari, being Dreven the one to offer it since Beeren is unavailable and will call her mistress to receive it imediatly, destroying Dreven's hopes who will no doubt collaborate on the story to save his skin from having to deny and explain anything to anyone! （>▽<）

With this in mind, I had a lot of fun drawing and coloring this. I tried to be faithful the the references given, but joined little bits from different ones to draw this version of male Keeshir's Guard uniform. I also wanted to draw his crossbow but ~~it was too complicated~~ it wouldn't be seen much and I didn't wanted to draw a strap in front of his vest, so sword option it was. As for Aelra, since her only drawing didn't show the front of her suit, I took some liberty and added some more details, similar to what she already had. I also made her suit more violet to be more distinguishable from her skin tone. As for her hair, I ~~lurked~~ looked for more references in the story and she had different descriptions of being both blonde and red-haired, although it was almost orange in her picture, so went to an blonde-fiery hair color. Unfortunately, my scanner really doesn't like my oranges and yellows combination and just ended up making it look like an single color.... Also I need more thin pens for my lineart.

I hope the result is pleasant to the character's owners and that I didn't went too much "out of character" for both of them! ｡◕‿◕｡

"Are you entering or what?"
Rion was looking at her with amusement in his eyes, along with something else, comprehension maybe?
Kiddo took a deep inspiration to brace herself and stepped over the threshold of the house. It was not as if she hadn't crossed it several times already but today was different. Today she was alone.
"You look like you're entering a lion's den."
"Actually I entered a lion's den once." She saw the way Aelra was looking at her and felt the need to justify, smiling a self deprecating smile at the pretty young woman.
"I didn't do it on purpose, though. Some rogues from the Moors had managed to take up one of our outposts. I was the smallest so I climbed up and through a garret at night to sneak in. But I was careless and jumped in the middle of what I thought were the stables. There weren't horses in there, at least not live ones. The chief had bought somewhere two lions and had fed by hand since they were cubs and used to set them on his prisoners.."

The worst that'll happen is that she'll say "that's sweet, but this won't work!" ...

(actually, the worst that can happen is her taking out a knife and stabbing him multiple times in response, but no one tell him that)
